Jonai: Three influential organizations from Assam’s Jonai—Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), Mising Mimag Kebang (MMK), and Takam Mising Mime Kebang (TMMK)—have jointly urged the Chief Ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to ensure swift and just action in the murder of Probash Doley, a labourer from Dekapam in Dhemaji district. Doley was found dead near an under-construction building in Chimpu, Arunachal Pradesh, on the night of June 18.

Following the incident, Arunachal Pradesh police arrested 26-year-old Tai John in connection with the crime. However, the organizations are demanding more than just an arrest.

In formal memorandums submitted on Monday, the groups called for the formation of a joint high-level investigation team comprising officials from the Home Departments of both states. They believe such collaboration is necessary to clarify jurisdictional ambiguities, establish facts, and ensure a transparent and impartial probe.

The organizations also demanded that the trial be conducted in a fast-track court and that the accused receive exemplary punishment. “The accused must face immediate and strict legal consequences,” they wrote in their submission to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, delivered through the Jonai co-district commissioner. A copy was also sent to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Beyond seeking justice for Doley, the groups highlighted concerns over the roles of the building owner and the contractor under whom Doley was working. They urged a full investigation into their potential negligence.

Describing Doley as the sole breadwinner of his financially vulnerable family, the organizations called for Rs 1 crore in ex gratia compensation, educational support for his children, and livelihood assistance for his dependents. “This is not merely a law-and-order issue—it is a violation of basic human rights and dignity,” the memorandum stated.

Earlier in the day, members of TMPK, MMK, and TMMK staged a protest in Dekapam, blocking National Highway 515 for over two hours. They demanded capital punishment for the accused and warned of intensified agitation if authorities failed to act swiftly.
