Guwahati: In a major step toward empowering Indian farmers ahead of the Kharif season, the Government of India will roll out its flagship campaign, “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan,” from May 29 to June 12, 2025. Announced by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare & Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the campaign is designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices, introduce region-specific technologies, and gather field-level feedback to shape future policies and research. The campaign will be implemented across the country, with a focused drive in the North Eastern states. In this region, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VI, will lead the initiative, covering Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. In Assam alone, the campaign will reach over 5 lakh farmers across 3,250 villages, making it one of the most extensive outreach efforts in the state’s agricultural sector. ICAR-ATARI has mobilized 52 teams consisting of scientists from ICAR, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Assam Agricultural University (AAU), and officials from allied government departments. These teams will visit remote and climate-sensitive villages, particularly those inhabited by tribal and aspirational communities, to engage directly with farmers. Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, emphasized that the campaign aims to foster deeper collaboration between farmers, scientists, and extension personnel. He said the initiative is focused not only on promoting climate-resilient and locally adaptable technologies but also on creating a participatory environment where farmers’ input can influence the trajectory of agricultural development. According to him, the campaign reflects a long-term vision of making scientific advancements more accessible and relevant to those working at the grassroots level. Launched under the joint guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and ICAR, the “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan” is expected to be a game-changing step in strengthening India’s rural economy through knowledge-sharing, innovation, and inclusive growth.
