Guwahati: A deeply moving new Assamese feature film titled Taarikh is set to release in cinemas on August 22, bringing to the screen a powerful exploration of grief, memory, and healing in the wake of the 2008 serial bomb blasts that rocked Assam. Directed by Himjyoti Talukdar and produced by Muktismaan Hazarika and Arundhati Sarmah Baruah, Taarikh was officially announced at a press event on Wednesday, where the film’s trailer and evocative title track were unveiled. The film has already begun drawing attention for its sensitive treatment of one of the most painful chapters in the state’s recent history. A psychological drama at its core, Taarikh tells the story of a father who loses his young son in the blasts and struggles to navigate the haunting weight of memory and time. Through his solitary journey, the film delves into the layers of trauma that linger long after the sirens have faded and headlines have changed. “This story is personal and universal at the same time,” said director Talukdar at the event. “It speaks of time, memory, loss, and love — moments we often overlook.” Shot with a restrained visual palette and an introspective tone, Taarikh seeks to go beyond reportage to focus on the emotional toll tragedies leave behind. It attempts to open a dialogue around collective trauma, resilience, and the ways in which ordinary lives are irreversibly altered by acts of violence. With its release approaching, Taarikh is already being seen as more than a film—it is a cinematic reflection on grief, a tribute to lives lost, and an invitation to remember, reflect, and heal.
