Post Malone to perform in Guwahati on Dec. 8

Guwahati: Global music sensation and American rapper Post Malone will perform live in Guwahati on December 8 next. The high-profile event marks a historic milestone as the flagship concert under the newly unveiled Concert Economy Policy — a bold initiative by the Assam government aimed at energizing youth engagement, promoting cultural growth, and boosting tourism. The announcement was made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing in Dergaon, Golaghat, on Wednesday. He confirmed that the Cabinet had approved the policy, initially proposed during the recent Budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly. “Assam is ready to step into the global spotlight,” said Sarma. “In December, Guwahati will host a major concert that will rival events in Meghalaya. We have fallen behind in this space, but we are now ready to catch up.” The Concert Economy Policy is modeled after similar efforts in states like Gujarat and Meghalaya, which have reaped substantial economic and cultural benefits from hosting international music events. Sarma cited the recent Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad, which reportedly generated over Rs 600 crore, as a key example of the potential economic impact. As part of the policy’s rollout, Guwahati, along with Dibrugarh and Jorhat, has been designated a priority city for hosting international-standard concerts. The state government has pledged support for event organizers to ensure smooth execution and attract long-term investment into Assam’s burgeoning cultural economy.
