‘Prastawana – The Preamble’: A Powerful Assamese Film Unveiled in Guwahati

Guwahati: The highly anticipated Assamese film ‘Prastawana – The Preamble’ took a major step toward its release with the official unveiling of its posters, trailer, and soundtrack at a grand event in Juripar, Panjabari, Guwahati. Co-directed by acclaimed writer Dilip Borah and theatre veteran Manik Roy, the film is inspired by Borah’s celebrated novel ‘Yatra’ and is based on true events.
Produced by Dilip Borah and Dr. Rabin Saikia, the film explores pressing socio-political issues, particularly their impact on the youth and the education system. It offers a raw, thought-provoking look at how political interference distorts academic integrity, justice, and democratic ideals. “The film aims to highlight justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity—values that define our Constitution,” said Borah.
Veteran actor Tapan Das, who plays the lead, called it a challenging yet fulfilling experience. “The character I portray pushed me beyond my usual limits,” he noted.
The film’s story, screenplay, and lyrics are penned by Borah. Cinematography is by Bitul Das, editing by National Award-winner A. Sreekar Prasad and Jhulan Krishna Mahanta. The background score is composed by Quan Bay, with songs by Satya Ranjan Bhuyan, Hiteswar Ray, and Manjyotsna Mahanta.
Other cast members include Paarvee Baruah, Hillol Kumar Pathak, Debajit Mazumdar, and Simanta Raj Sarma Kondoli, among others.
Slated for release within the next two to three months, ‘Prastawana – The Preamble’ promises to be a timely cinematic reflection on democracy, youth, and social consciousness in India.
