Trump Says Musk’s New Party Will Help Republicans

Washington : In a surprising development in the escalating feud between former President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, Trump on Monday expressed optimism about Musk’s newly launched third political party, the “America Party.”

Speaking to reporters ahead of a cabinet meeting, Trump remarked, “Elon Musk’s party will help us. Third parties are always good for me.” The comment has sparked a flurry of speculation about Trump’s 2026 midterm strategy and the broader implications for the Republican Party.

The relationship between Trump and Musk has dramatically deteriorated in recent months. Once political allies, the rift widened following Trump’s passage of the controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” on July 4. The sweeping legislation extended Trump-era tax cuts, ramped up spending on defense and border security, and eliminated key tax credits for electric vehicles — a direct blow to Musk’s electric car empire, Tesla.

Musk, who had briefly served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), sharply criticized the bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” and warning it would add “$5 trillion to the deficit.”

In response, Musk announced the formation of the America Party on July 5 via his platform X, declaring, “We live in a one-party system, not a democracy. The America Party is here to give you back your freedom.” The new party pledges to uphold fiscal conservatism and will target a select number of House and Senate races in 2026.

With Trump apparently welcoming the third-party challenge, analysts suggest the former president may see Musk’s venture as a potential spoiler for Democrats or a tool to consolidate his populist base—further blurring traditional political lines ahead of a pivotal election cycle.
