Manipur Forces Crack Down on Militancy, 12 Arrested in Major Operations

Imphal:In a coordinated series of operations, security forces in Manipur, along with state police, apprehended 12 militants linked to banned outfits across Imphal East and Imphal West districts on April 26.Acting on intelligence inputs, personnel captured four operatives of the outlawed United National Liberation Front (Pambei faction) and one associate during a search operation at Wangkhei Thangapat Mapan in Imphal East. The arrested cadres have been identified as Wangmayum Azizur Rahamna (52), Sheikh Wasim Raja (30), Md. Faruk Khan (19), and Phusham Ajmir (24), along with their associate Khullakpam Ibosana (44).Investigations revealed that the group was actively engaged in extortion and coercion of civilians, interfering in private matters for monetary gain. Authorities recovered live ammunition, mobile phones, and a four-wheeler from the group. Ibosana was reportedly acting as the link between the militants and local residents.In a separate incident, an active member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), or PREPAK (Pro), was apprehended near the Imphal City Sewage Treatment Plant. Identified as Takhellambam Meipaksana Singh (29) from Imphal East, he was found carrying two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card. Singh is alleged to have participated in the recent forcible closure of a gas agency at Bamon Leikai and operated under the directives of a PREPAK (Pro) commander who is currently under police custody.Further operations led to the arrest of six militants from various factions of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) across Imphal East. The arrested individuals are Md. Maneruddin (48) of Lilong Haoreibi Lou Manga, Md. Wajbir Ahamed (33) of Lilong Sambrukhong, Thongam Joynanda Singh (51) of Khongnangpheidekpi Aheibam Leikai, Laishram Suraj Singh (28) of Sawombung Junction, Ningthoujam Birjit Meitei (36) of Nongren Mamang, and Kshetrimayum Rajen Singh (38) from Kakching Lamdong.Security agencies have intensified operations across the valley amid rising concerns over militant activities, with intelligence-led initiatives continuing to yield significant results.
