Shubman Breaks Into ICC Top 10 After Historic Double in Birmingham

Birmingham: India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has stormed into the top 10 of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, climbing to a career-best No. 6 following his sensational performance in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.
Gill made history in Birmingham, becoming the first batter ever to score a double century and a 150-plus score in the same Test, hammering 269 and 161 on a flat surface. India piled up over 1,000 runs in the match and defeated England by 336 runs, leveling the five-Test series 1-1.
His heroics earned him 807 rating points, a leap of 106 points from his previous best of 701, and silenced critics questioning his overseas form. Since taking over the captaincy, Gill has led with the bat and delivered consistently.
Meanwhile, England’s Harry Brook displaced former skipper Joe Root to become the new world No. 1 in Test batting, marking a significant shift in the rankings.
Among other Indian batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal retained his No. 4 spot, while Rishabh Pant slipped to No. 7 despite a century in each innings of the first Test and a brisk 65 in the second match.
India and England will face off in the third Test next week, with the series finely poised.
