Four Held in Meghalaya for Illegal Cross-Border Entry

Shillong: In a joint operation, the Meghalaya Police and Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian accomplices in East Khasi Hills for illegal entry into India. The arrests were made near the Mawlai bypass in Shillong after the authorities intercepted a Guwahati-bound vehicle based on a tip-off. During interrogation, two passengers were found without valid travel documents and identified as Bangladeshi nationals. The other two admitted to helping them cross the India-Bangladesh border illegally, according to a senior police official.
A BSF spokesperson highlighted that the operation underscores the strong coordination between BSF Meghalaya Frontier and state police in combating infiltration and cross-border crimes.
BSF data reveals that 78 Bangladeshi nationals have been caught attempting illegal entry into India in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
