Kohima: A major landslide near Phesama on National Highway-2 has completely blocked the crucial Kohima-Mao stretch, causing significant disruption to traffic flow. The incident occurred between kilometer markers 192.050 and 192.150, forcing authorities to close the highway to all vehicles until the situation is resolved. In response, Kohima Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem issued a travel advisory on June 1, 2025, detailing restrictions and providing alternative routes for commuters. Heavy vehicles coming from Manipur towards Kohima are being stopped at Khuzama, while those traveling from Dimapur to southern Nagaland or Manipur are being halted at Sechü-Subza. Light motor vehicles are advised to take different routes depending on their destinations. Kohima-bound vehicles are directed to use the Demori Cove/JCC-Kisama-Phesama route, which is operating one-way, while vehicles headed south or towards Manipur are rerouted via the BSF Camp–Chakhabama–Kidima–Viswema/Mao Gate route. Authorities have also cautioned the public to avoid damaged electric poles and exposed wiring near the affected area, as safety measures are still underway. The situation is being closely monitored by officials, with restoration work in progress. Further updates are expected as efforts continue to clear the landslide and restore normal traffic on this vital highway.
