Missing Sikkim Teacher's Found in Siliguri

Gangtok: In a chilling development to a months-long missing person case, skeletal remains suspected to be of Passang Doma Sherpa, a government school teacher from Sikkim’s Namchi district, were discovered on Thursday in a house she owned in Siliguri, West Bengal. Sherpa, a Nepali language teacher, had been missing since August 7, 2024. A formal complaint filed by her family led to a joint investigation by Sikkim and West Bengal police. Namchi SP Karma Gyamtso Bhutia confirmed that the remains were found in a locked bedroom of a house in the Devidanga area, approximately 100 km from Namchi. “We had to break open the door. Inside, we found skeletal remains, believed to be of Sherpa,” he said. Personal belongings found at the scene support the identification, but DNA profiling and post-mortem results are awaited for confirmation. Police are probing multiple theories, including abduction, confinement, or foul play. The discovery has sparked grief and outrage in Namchi and Siliguri, with many demanding a thorough investigation and justice. A forensic team has joined the probe as authorities examine Sherpa’s personal and professional history for possible leads.
