Tripura transport minister announces plans to revive Kailashahar Airport

Agartala: Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Tuesday that the Central government is expected to soon take steps to revive the defunct Kailashahar airport in Unakoti District. Speaking to Press, Minister Chowdhury said officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a feasibility inspection of the airport on Monday. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to improving Tripura’s transport infrastructure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Tripura’s communication network has improved significantly since the BJP government took charge, including roads, highways, and airways,” Chowdhury said. He added that he has repeatedly urged both former and current Union Civil Aviation Ministers to initiate flight operations from Kailashahar. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is also actively pursuing the revival, having raised the issue with the Centre. The minister expressed optimism that following the recent AAI inspection, the Central government will take timely action to restore the airport’s operations.
