Gossaigaon: Amid the ongoing inhumane eviction drives on Muslims across Assam, the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) staged an intense protest demonstration in Gossaigaon, echoing state-wide resistance. Spearheaded by the AAMSU’s West Kokrajhar district unit, the demonstration saw thousands of activists assemble in front of the AAMSU district office at Serfanguri.

As the protestors attempted to proceed towards the Sub-Divisional Officer’s (SDO) office, they were intercepted and restrained by the police- a move that the demonstrators sharply condemned. Decrying what they termed the "dictatorial governance" of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, protestors raised vociferous slogans that reverberated across the region.

Holding placards and chanting against the government, the protesters described the administration’s actions as oppressive and authoritarian. Addressing the gathering, AAMSU's Central Organising Secretary, Mazaharul Islam, lashed out at the BJP-led government, branding its leadership as "Hitlerian" in nature. He asserted that such a repressive regime would not endure much longer and demanded that the government immediately ensure proper rehabilitation for the evicted families.

The protest programme saw the active participation of several district and regional AAMSU leaders, including Organising Secretary Zakir Hussain. In his address, Hussain vehemently criticized the ruling BJP regime for perpetrating communal discrimination, brutal repression against minorities, and orchestrating eviction drives that grossly violate human rights.

He further condemned the government for desecrating the sanctity of India’s secular Constitution, invoking its pledge to uphold secularism while simultaneously attempting to divide the state along religious and caste lines through polarising rhetoric and communal politics. He declared that the Chief Minister, Sarma, had forfeited his moral right to remain in office. Highlighting the fatal consequences of these eviction drives, AAMSU leaders pointed out that at least five innocent lives have been lost so far. In light of these tragedies, they demanded that Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma take moral responsibility and resign from his post immediately.
