Dibrugarh: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Centralised Community Kitchen by the Akshaya Patra Foundation at Dihing Khamti in Dibrugarh district. The project, to be built at an estimated cost of ₹25.45 crore, aims to serve hygienic and nutritious mid-day meals to thousands of schoolchildren under the PM POSHAN scheme. The G+1 infrastructure will house a modern kitchen, training centre, administrative block, staff quarters, and a multipurpose hall. Designed to operate at scale, the facility is expected to be completed by September next year. Speaking at the event, CM Sarma highlighted the kitchen’s multi-dimensional impact. “This is not just about meals. It is about ensuring nutrition for our children, empowering local communities, and creating a sustainable ecosystem for growth and health,” he said. The project is anticipated to generate substantial employment opportunities for local residents, offer skill development in the culinary and hospitality sectors, and promote awareness about balanced diets and food hygiene. Officials from the Akshaya Patra Foundation expressed gratitude for the state government's support and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening public welfare through nutritional support and community engagement. Once operational, the kitchen will become a key pillar in Assam’s drive to eradicate classroom hunger and improve learning outcomes across government schools.
