Assam CM seeks fair probe into Namrata Bora's Death case
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry into the death of 25-year-old Namrata Bora, who died in a road accident near Nongpoh Police Station in the early hours of June 4. Namrata, a resident of Assam, was returning to Guwahati from Shillong when the car (AS 01 EV 9578) she was travelling in hit a stationary truck at Shangbangla in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district around 4:44 am. While four co-passengers sustained minor injuries, Namrata succumbed to her injuries. Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma said, “In view of the concerns raised by the bereaved family and well-wishers, I request that a fair and impartial enquiry be conducted by a senior police officer to ensure that all facts surrounding the incident are brought to light.” The victim’s family has questioned the police account, citing inconsistencies in the FIR, which mentions six occupants in the vehicle, while a video circulating online shows only five. Reports also allege that the vehicle was driven by the son of an AIUDF MLA from Assam. Although a case has been registered at Nongpoh Police Station, CM Sarma emphasized the need for a senior officer to lead the investigation, responding to public concerns and the family's demand for justice.
