Nagaon: The flood situation in Nagaon district has worsened since Sunday, inundating new areas under Kaliabor, Kampur and Raha revenue circles. As per reports, due to the continued rise in the water level of the Kapili river, the floodwaters have inundated several areas, causing panic among the residents in the greater areas of Kampur. The flood water has overflowed the Kampur-Jamunamukh road at Sariahtoli, flooding extensive areas. Several villages, including Kampur Bokulguri, Padumoni, Kumbhirdubi, Dhemajigaon, Bahakabari, Kunwariati, and Adarshgaon, are currently under flood water till the time of filing this report here. It's witnessed that some of the flood-affected residents have taken shelter on the embankment, where they have set up makeshift camps. There is a shortage of food and drinking water in these areas. As per a report, over 76 revenue villages in Kampur have been affected by the floods and disrupted communication on the Kampur-Jamunamukh and Kampur - Changsoki -Tumprong PWD roads. District Commissioner Narendra Kr Shah and Raha MLA Sashikanta Das separately, visited several flood-affected areas and relief camps, assessing the damage and assuring the residents that the district administration would provide all necessary assistance to combat the prevailing situation in the greater severely flood affected areas. Meanwhile, the district administration has declared closer of 115 LP, ME High school as well as Higher Secondary Schools in the flood hit areas of Kampur and Raha revenue circles with immediate effect and also imposed strict prohibition order under section 163, BNSS and strictly prohibited movement of all kinds of vehicles by general public on the Hatimura dyke from Kukurakota hill to Hatimura hill until further order as the dyke turned muddy and extensively slippery due to incessant rains, posing significant threat to public safety as well as would hamper the ongoing repair work of the dyke.
