Guardian minister Singhal inaugurates a flowing irrigation scheme
Biswanath Chariali: The Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Irrigation and guardian Minister of Biswanath district Ashok Singhal inaugurated a reconstructed Flowing Irrigation Scheme (FIS) at Sakomtha in the district. The scheme was constructed by the Biswanath-Behali Division of the Irrigation Department under NABARD-30, RIDF-2024-25 scheme at a cost of Rs 3.30 crore and will supply water to about 800 hectares of agricultural land. The Minister inaugurated the scheme and addressed a public meeting held on the occasion and said that farmers in a large area would benefit from this ambitious scheme. The scheme is expected to benefit more than 200 farmers in Sakomtha, Nizarapar, Bolodonga, Janghalbasti, Itapukhuri, Khelmati and other areas. The scheme was started in 1977-78 and later renovated to supply water to about 400 hectares of agricultural land. Recently, the scheme has been reconstructed to increase the irrigation capacity and enable it to irrigate 800 hectares of agricultural land. The programme was attended by Biswanath MLA Pramod Barthakur, Behali MLA Diganta Ghatwaal, District Commissioner Seemanta Kumar Das, Senior Superintendent of Police Shubhashish Baruah, Additional Chief Engineer Amalesh Chowdhury, Superintendent Engineer Laxmikanta Kumbang, ZPC member Ganesh Basowar, social worker Nitya Narzary, Executive Engineer Rangbang Teron and others were present.
