Silchar: In a heartfelt tribute to Assam’s legendary freedom fighter Deshbhakt Tarun Ram Phukan, the Silchar Municipal Corporation, in association with Shrishti Waste Management Team, organized an inspiring art competition for children at Gandhibag Park on Monday. Held under the evocative theme “Swacchta hi Deshbhakti,” the event creatively bridged the ideals of patriotism with the modern-day civic mission of cleanliness and environmental stewardship. The serene greenery of Gandhibag Park came alive with vibrant colours and youthful enthusiasm as children sketched their imagination onto canvas, each artwork echoing the spirit of national pride and the call for a cleaner, greener India. The event was graced by the presence of the Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Corporation Shri Nabuttam Sharma, AUAS, whose participation underlined the administration’s commitment to nurturing civic responsibility from a young age. Organizers highlighted that the initiative was not just a tribute to the towering legacy of Tarun Ram Phukan, but also a purposeful effort to plant the seeds of accountability and environmental consciousness among the city’s young citizens. Through brushes and colours, the children explored themes of freedom, discipline, cleanliness, and duty values that resonate deeply with the life and contributions of the freedom fighter. The Municipal Corporation’s thoughtful celebration on the solemn occasion of Phukan’s death anniversary reinforced a powerful message that patriotism in the 21st century begins at home, in our streets, parks, and communities with each act of cleanliness contributing to the nation’s dignity. By weaving historical remembrance with present-day civic engagement, the event served as both a tribute and a call to action, reminding all that a cleaner India is a stronger India and one of the most sincere ways to honour the memory of our national heroes.
