NFR Boosts Monsoon Safety Measures for Uninterrupted Train Operations
Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has ramped up its monsoon preparedness with a robust set of safety measures to ensure uninterrupted train services amid heavy rains, landslides, and flooding risks. Stationary watchmen have been deployed at vulnerable locations to monitor track conditions round-the-clock. Flood-prone zones are reinforced through embankment strengthening, improved drainage, and clearing of water channels. Water level gauges have been installed in critical hill sections for real-time monitoring. To respond swiftly during emergencies, ‘Emergency on Wheels’ trains with technical staff and equipment are on standby. Rapid Response Teams have been set up across all divisions to handle incidents like landslides and waterlogging. Strategic deployment of 197 wagons loaded with boulders and materials has been made in the Lumding Division, while other divisions—Tinsukia (52), Rangiya (36), Alipurduar (20), and Katihar (40)—are also well-stocked. Winch Crabs, Jacks, Tirfors, and Tripods are positioned for emergency recovery operations. NFR is also coordinating with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for real-time weather alerts, enabling its 24x7 control rooms to take timely decisions. Passengers are advised to stay informed through official updates. NFR remains committed to ensuring safety and operational efficiency throughout the monsoon season.
