SSB and Bijni Police Nab Man with Homemade Firearm in Chirang

Bijni: In a joint operation, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Bijni Police apprehended a man in possession of a homemade firearm from Anand Bazar, under 2 No. Daranga area in Assam’s Chirang district on Tuesday. The accused, identified as 42-year-old Sujit Das, was arrested following a coordinated raid by personnel from the 15th Battalion SSB, Dhola Camp in Kajalgaon, along with local police. During the search at his residence, the team recovered a locally made firearm, 16 beer bottles, and 25 bottles of liquor. Das, reportedly a small-scale shopkeeper, was taken into custody on the spot. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, particularly focusing on the motive behind the possession of the firearm, for which the accused has failed to provide any valid justification so far.
