Students in Kamrup (M) attend summer workshop
Guwahati: Biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak, in collaboration with Help Aid Foundation and supported by Wipro Earthian, organised a three-day summer workshop on nature learning at Bonda, Kamrup Metro, from July 12 to 14. The initiative aimed to deepen students’ understanding of urban ecosystems and promote environmental stewardship among the youth. Thirty students participated in interactive, hands-on activities designed to enhance scientific curiosity, observation, and documentation skills. Sessions focused on plant biology, pollination types, and microscopic analysis of flower pollens and ferns, helping students connect with local biodiversity. A “Trash to Wealth” craft-making session and an art competition on waste management fostered creativity and environmental responsibility. Students also interacted with officials from the JICA-supported Guwahati Jal Board project, gaining insight into urban water challenges and government efforts to ensure clean drinking water in Kamrup Metro. Tikendrajit Gogoi, Project Officer at Aaranyak, led a session on waste auditing and management, followed by a field assessment of waste practices in Bondajan. The workshop was facilitated by Aaranyak’s Environment Education and Capacity Building Division team, including Tikendrajit Gogoi, Arnab Borgohain, Prajnyan Sarma, Disha Haloi, Geetashree Sharma, and Jyotismita Kashyap. “This immersive workshop not only equipped students with vital environmental knowledge but also encouraged them to think critically and act for a sustainable urban future,” said Jayanta Kumar Pathak, Assistant Director and Acting Head of the Division at Aaranyak.
