Manipur Governor Reviews Border Security: Focus on Speeding Indo-Myanmar Fencing Work

Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla presided over a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan to evaluate the ongoing progress of the Indo-Myanmar border fencing project, a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at strengthening border security.During the session, officials from the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) presented detailed updates on various aspects of the project. These included the status of land acquisition, the development of approach roads, deployment of manpower, and challenges linked to security. The meeting highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to address obstacles and ensure timely completion of the fencing work.The gathering saw the participation of several top officials from the state administration and security agencies. Among those in attendance were the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, Director General of Police (DGP), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Principal Secretary (Agriculture), Home Commissioner, Secretary to the Governor, and representatives from the Assam Rifles. Additionally, Deputy Commissioners from five border districts joined the review through video conferencing, providing district-specific updates and input.Governor Bhalla underscored the strategic importance of expediting the fencing project, which is vital for enhancing surveillance, curbing illegal cross-border activities, and maintaining law and order in the region. Emphasis was placed on inter-departmental cooperation and mobilization of adequate resources to overcome administrative and logistical hurdles.The meeting also addressed the concerns of local communities residing near the border and stressed the importance of balancing security imperatives with the socio-economic welfare of border residents.This review comes at a time when the Indo-Myanmar border has gained national attention due to heightened concerns over transnational movements and the need for tighter border regulation.
