Security Forces Arrest Six Militants in Manipur Anti-Insurgency Operations
Imphal: In a series of coordinated anti-insurgency operations over the weekend, security forces arrested six suspected militants and recovered a cache of firearms, explosives, and other items across three districts of Manipur. The most significant operation occurred on June 14 near the Taret river in Kamjong District, where three insurgents were apprehended with arms and explosives. The arrested individuals included two KYKL operatives — Bidyananda Shijagurumayam (25) from Khurai Thongam Leikai in Imphal East and Tonsana Moirangthem (27) from Moirang Thamnapokpi in Bishnupur. The third, Omikanta Nongmaithem (27) from Wangjing Lamding Bazaar in Thoubal, was identified as a member of the Kanglei People's Congress (KCP). Recovered items included a 7.65mm pistol with two live rounds, a .22 calibre pistol with three rounds, 25 detonators, Rs 1,840 in cash, 20,000 Myanmar kyat, and two mobile phones. On June 15, three more suspects were detained in separate operations. Near Sawombung Bridge in Imphal East, security personnel arrested Takhellambam Gandhi Singh (25), alias Thouba, a KCP (MC Progressive) member from Thoubal District. Seized items included a mobile phone, SIM card, and Aadhaar card. Later the same day, two KCP (MFL) cadres — Songam Hungyo (19) from Sada Lungthar and Toijam Jamson Meitei (25), alias Boro, from Kongpal Kongkham Leikai — were apprehended at Shikhong Shemai Bazar in Thoubal. Both were found in possession of mobile phones. The successful operations mark a significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks operating across Manipur and ensure regional security.
