ASCW launches Suo-Motu case against Victor Das
Guwahati: The Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) has taken suo-motu cognizance of a reported incident involving the alleged physical assault of a woman by a man identified as Victor Das. The case has triggered widespread public concern, prompting immediate action from the women’s rights body.In a strongly worded statement, the ASCW condemned the alleged assault, calling it a "heinous act" and raising alarm over the growing threats to women's safety and dignity in the state. The Commission emphasized that such incidents require urgent and thorough investigation to uphold justice and safeguard fundamental rights.The Commission has officially registered the case under reference number ASCW/SM/01/2025. Acting on its mandate, the ASCW has directed law enforcement agencies and local administrative authorities to launch a full-scale investigation into the allegations. It has also issued a directive for the submission of a detailed enquiry report, along with an action-taken report, within 30 days of receiving the Commission's notice.Highlighting the importance of swift and decisive action, the Commission called on all departments involved to prioritize the matter.
