Assam Cabinet Approves Key Projects Worth Over ₹700 Crore
Major approvals for health, education, welfare, and land reforms.;
Guwahati: In a significant cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Government approved several landmark initiatives across education, healthcare, energy, and welfare sectors on Friday. One of the key decisions was the approval of a ₹357.28 crore project for constructing teachers’ quarters and hostels at Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dibrugarh, covering 85,509 sqm. The development includes residences for faculty, medical staff, and various categories of student hostels. The Cabinet also gave the green light to establish a National University for Disability Studies at Chhaygaon, waiving land transfer premiums worth ₹8.63 crore to facilitate the timely setup of this inclusive educational institution. To celebrate 200 years of Assam Tea, ₹342 crore was sanctioned under the Mukhya Mantri Eti Koli Duti Paat scheme, providing ₹5,000 each to nearly 7 lakh tea garden workers. Major decisions were also taken to boost hydrocarbon exploration, including exemptions under the 2015 Land Act and launch of a dedicated online portal for land reclassification and premium payments. Additionally, the Cabinet approved land leases to Global Health Ltd. (Medanta) and Lineage Healthcare Ltd. for healthcare infrastructure under Advantage Assam 2.0, and compensation for drought-affected areas under SDRF norms. Other approvals included the digital settlement of land under Mission Basundhara 3.0, expansion of health benefits to APDCL and allied employees under Ayushman Asom-MMLSAY, and lease for RJ Corp’s hotel project.
