Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati organises 5-Day Bihu Workshop to Celebrate Assam’s rich cultural heritage

Guwahati:The Central Bureau of Communication, Regional Office, Guwahati, has organised a five-day workshop on Bihu commencing from today, celebrating the essence of Assam’s most vibrant and cherished festival. The aim of the workshop is to foster cultural awareness among the youth and individuals, by promoting the rich traditions of Bihu dance and music.The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Ashish Bhatnagar, Additional Director General, Prasar Bharati (North East Zone), and Shri Kripa Shankar Yadav, Additional Director General, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (North East Zone), along with other esteemed dignitaries.Talking about Bihu, Shri Ashish Bhatnagar said, “Bihu is not just a festival or a dance form-it embodies the vibrant spirit and unity of our community. Through the energetic rhythms of Bihu dance, we channel a collective energy that strengthens our sense of togetherness and cultural pride.”
Shri Bhatnagar also offered insightful thoughts on the folk music and dance of the North East and emphasised on Assam being the epitome of culture of the North East.Around 100 participants attended the opening day, engaging in an informative and energetic session that introduced them to the vibrant rhythms and graceful movements of Bihu. The event saw enthusiastic participation from officials of the Central Bureau of Communication, Press Information Bureau, and Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati. Students from nearby educational institutions also joined the workshop, reflecting a strong interest among the youth.The workshop, which runs from 7th April to 11th April, 2025, is being conducted daily from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
It is free and open to the public as a walk-in event. The culmination of the workshop on 11th April, 2025 will feature a grand final presentation of Bihu performances by the participants.Through this initiative, CBC Guwahati seeks to celebrate and amplify the cultural vibrancy of Assam, ensuring that the spirit of Bihu continues to thrive across generations and geographies.
