Guwahati to Host 11 New Five-Star Hotels: Assam CM
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled plans for Guwahati to soon become a prominent global hospitality hub, with the development of 11 five-star hotels to cater to the region’s growing demand for premium accommodations. On Monday, Sarma laid the foundation stone for two upcoming Marriott International properties and described them as “unique and different” additions to the city’s hospitality sector. The development is part of a broader strategy to position Guwahati as a leading destination for both business and leisure tourism. Among the key projects, Sarma highlighted the Marriott Resort and Spa near LGBI Airport, which will span 76 bighas of land, making it one of the largest resorts in the region. Additionally, plans are in motion for two Taj Hotels as part of the Guwahati Aerocity project and a Lemon Tree Hotel along the National Highway. Further boosting the city’s hotel infrastructure, Sarma confirmed that the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati will undergo an expansion, adding 100 more rooms to meet growing demand. At Khanapara, the existing Vivanta will be replaced by a new Taj Hotel, with further plans for four additional Marriott hotels in the city. Speaking about these developments, Sarma noted that these high-profile projects were a result of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the Advantage Assam Infrastructure and Investment Summit held in February, with an estimated value of Rs 500 crore. Construction has already commenced, a mere three months after the agreements were made. With these new projects, Guwahati is set to become a key player in the hospitality industry, attracting tourists and business travelers alike.
