Panigaon HS School launches guest lectures to boost English learning

North Lakhimpur: The Department of English at Panigaon Higher Secondary School, a pioneer educational institution of Lakhimpur district as well as of the state, has undertaken a series of auspicious programmes in a bid to popularizing the study, teaching and learning of English among the students and eradicating the xenoglossophobia among them centering round the said language. As a part of the programme, an English Study Forum, covering the learned persons of English language in the area, has been constituted under the auspices of Tulendra Das, Prasanta Barik and Dipankar Bhuyan, the Subject Teachers of English of Panigaon Higher Secondary School. Moreover, the Department of English launched a guest lectureship programme in the school on Monday in order to enhance collaborative teaching-learning process by facilitating the opportunity to the students to learn English from prominent learned persons of the language. The guest lectureship programme was inaugurated by Ranjit Kakati, writer, poet-cum-columnist and journalist of The Sentinel, who is also the alumnus of the school. He took two classes in the HS 2nd year on Monday and Tuesday respectively and shaded light on 'How to study English poem' by taking John Keats's poem 'Thing of Beauty' for the discourse as per syllabus. As part of the lectureship programme, two learned persons will deliver lectures on two days every month in the First and Second Year Classes in an attempt to bring innovative ideas to the teaching-learning process. In future, workshops on creative writing, state-level poem writing competition, staging of drama by giving dramatic form selected stories from the curriculum will be organized as part of the series of auspicious programmes as per information found from Prasanta Barik. Ranjit Kakati has been selected as the chief advisor of the series of programmes.
