Guwahati: As Assam and the world commemorate the birth centenary of Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Assam Royal Global University (RGU) has announced a unique tribute—a dynamic museum dedicated to preserving the timeless legacy of the music maestro. Spearheaded by the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity, the proposed museum within the RGU campus will transcend traditional exhibits. “Our museum will not be a static display of artefacts. It will be a sanctuary where stories sing, where each photograph whispers, where every manuscript hums with the heartbeat of a man who transformed music into movement,” said Shamim Goney, Deputy Registrar (Administration), RGU. In keeping with this vision, RGU is inviting the public—individuals and institutions alike—to contribute personal memorabilia related to Dr. Hazarika. Items sought include photographs, letters, musical instruments, handwritten lyrics, costumes, recordings, artworks, or documented memories. Professor (Dr.) Amarjyoti Choudhury, Chair of the Centre, emphasized the inclusive spirit of the initiative: “Your contribution, no matter how small, could become part of a national legacy... Let this museum at RGU be a bridge between time and tribute. Let it echo not only the grandeur of his music but the quiet nobility of his mission—for unity, for justice, for Assam, for humanity.” This visionary project aims to create a vibrant cultural pulse point that not only honours the Bard of the Brahmaputra but inspires generations to come.
