Guwahati: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) are set to launch the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide initiative aimed at transforming Indian agriculture. Announced by Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the campaign will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025, and will cover over 700 districts across the country. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between agricultural research and field practices, aligning with the “Lab to Land” vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The campaign is designed to bring advanced farming techniques, new crop varieties, and government schemes directly to farmers in rural areas. During the 15-day campaign, agricultural scientists, ministry officials, and local workers will visit villages daily, interacting with farmers and raising awareness about modern farming practices. Special focus will be placed on promoting natural farming, drone technology, and mechanization in soybean cultivation. A high-level meeting on May 12, chaired by Shri Chauhan, brought together representatives from 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), over 100 ICAR institutions, and senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture. Agriculture Secretary Shri Devesh Chaturvedi and ICAR Director General Dr. M.L. Jat also participated. Chauhan emphasized that the campaign aims to deliver immediate benefits, especially ahead of the kharif season. “This is an innovative effort to ensure the prosperity of our farmers and make agriculture more advanced,” he said. The campaign will also involve state agriculture departments, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries officials, ATMA, National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS), and progressive farmers. They will promote crop diversification and help farmers adopt sustainable practices. In a bid to ensure the success of this initiative, Minister Chauhan has written to all state chief ministers, while Shri Chaturvedi and Dr. Jat have reached out to state officials to implement the action plan effectively. The campaign is expected to drive meaningful change in India’s agricultural landscape.
