Zoological Society of Assam Inaugurates New Unit at B.N. College
Move aims to strengthen zoological research and student engagement in life sciences;
Dhubri: In a significant boost to scientific and academic collaboration, a new unit of the Zoological Society of Assam (ZSA) was formally inaugurated at B.N. College (Autonomous), Dhubri, on Saturday. The initiative marks a major step in fostering research-oriented learning and strengthening zoological studies at the grassroots level. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr. Kishor Kumar Shah, Principal of B.N. College, who highlighted the importance of affiliating with state-level scientific societies to promote research and student participation in the life sciences. The event featured a keynote address by Professor Jogen Chandra Kalita, Former Head of the Department of Zoology and Dean, Faculty of Science, Gauhati University. Prof. Kalita emphasized the critical role of academic societies like ZSA in nurturing scientific curiosity, academic networking, and collaborative research. He lauded the dynamic efforts of B.N. College's Zoology Department. Also present were Dr. Mridul Kumar Borthakur, former Secretary of ZSA, who outlined the society’s mission, and Dr. Mokibur Rahman, Treasurer of ZSA, who spoke about the various activities undertaken by the society and encouraged student involvement in future programmes. Dr. Seema Jyoti, a senior ZSA member, welcomed the establishment of the new unit and assured full support from the parent organization for future initiatives. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a fruitful collaboration aimed at enhancing zoological education, research, and student development in Assam.
