Over 300 Weapons Recovered in Manipur in Coordinated Security Operation
Imphal: In one of the largest arms recoveries in recent memory, Manipur Police and security forces seized a significant cache of weapons and explosives during a series of intelligence-led search operations carried out on the night of June 13 and 14, 2025. The operation targeted multiple locations on the outskirts of five valley districts, in a concerted effort to crack down on illegal arms stockpiles amid ongoing unrest in the state.
The joint operation involved Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Indian Army, and the Assam Rifles. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, teams launched simultaneous raids, resulting in the recovery of 328 firearms and a vast quantity of ammunition and explosives.
According to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), the haul included 151 Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), 65 INSAS rifles, 73 other rifles, 5 carbines, 2 MP5 submachine guns, light machine guns (LMGs), AK-series rifles, Amogh rifles, and pistols. A mortar, flare guns, and an AR-15 rifle were also seized, highlighting the sophistication and volume of the hidden arsenal.
In addition to firearms, the forces recovered large quantities of live ammunition, including SLR, INSAS, AK, and .303 rounds, as well as a range of explosives such as grenades, detonators, and lathodes. Numerous magazines and other warlike stores were also confiscated.
Officials emphasized that the operation was executed with high-level coordination among all security stakeholders, marking a major success in efforts to restore peace, maintain public order, and safeguard civilians.
The Manipur Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities or information related to illegal arms to local authorities. They reiterated their commitment to continuing such intelligence-driven operations until complete normalcy returns to the state.
