Dhubri: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) launched a strong protest in Dhubri on Thursday, accusing the state government of targeting genuine Indian citizens by falsely declaring them as Bangladeshis without due legal process or the existence of an International Repatriation Treaty. Led by Bir Singh Jarua and the Dhubri district unit of AIUDF, the protest culminated in the submission of a memorandum to the President of India via the District Magistrate, demanding an immediate halt to what they termed as “state-sponsored atrocities” against Indian citizens under the guise of identifying illegal immigrants. The AIUDF expressed outrage at the state government's actions, stating, “If the Chief Minister hates Muslims so much that he wants to send us to Bangladesh under the cover of night, it would be better if he just had the police shoot us.” The remark underscored the party’s deep concerns over alleged communal bias and human rights violations. Party leaders claim that individuals with valid Indian documentation are being detained and harassed as part of the state’s controversial anti-illegal migration drive, particularly affecting minorities in lower Assam. In response to the escalating situation, a team of AIUDF lawyers has left for New Delhi to file a petition in the Supreme Court of India, seeking intervention and justice. The party also revealed that representatives from Asia Human Rights are expected to visit Assam soon to assess the ground situation. The protest has drawn attention to the growing tension over identity verification processes in the state, amid ongoing debates surrounding the NRC, D-Voter list, and foreigner tribunals. AIUDF has pledged to continue its legal and democratic fight until the rights of all Indian citizens are safeguarded.
