Kapili river is flowing above danger mark at Kampur

Nagaon: Due to release of additional water from reservoir of Kapili Hydro Power Station, Dima Hasao district, the Kapili as well as Borpani river are flowing about one centimetre above the danger mark throughout Kampur, Kachua and Raha areas in the district today here. As per an official bulletin, the overflowing water from Borpani river has submerged the crops field of over twenty seven villages under Kachua as well as Kampur revenue circles today till the time of filing this report here. As per reports, The district administration has declared a red alert in the area and urged the people living along the riverbanks to be vigilant as the water level of the Kapili river in Kampur started rising since morning, causing anxiety among the residents. At any moment, the Kapili river can create a flood-like situation in Kampur. According to reports, severe erosion has occurred near the Garokhanda rock embankment. There's a fear that a vast area of Kampur may get flooded at night. The village head, Rahul Teron, has announced through a microphone, asking people living in areas like Garokhanda, Kawaoimari, Paschim Kawoimari, Borchung, and Gosaingaon to remain alert. It's pertinent to mention that the authority concerned of Kapili Hydro Power Station, Dima Hasao has opened seven sluice gates to release the additional water from reservoir, due to incessant rains over a week in Dima Hasao as well as neighbouring Meghalaya.
