Beneficiary Meet and Socio-Economic Awareness Held in Srirampur
BTR, EM Ranjit Basumatary Slams Former CEM Hagrama’s Tenure;
Gossaigaon: In a significant outreach initiative, a Beneficiary Meet and Socio-Economic Awareness was held at Srirampur in the Gossaigaon subdivision under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The event was organized by the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and aimed at sensitizing the public about ongoing government welfare schemes, land rights, and development initiatives. The program was organized under the supervision of Francis Tappo, the UPPL’s Srirampur Block in-charge, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents and party workers. Addressing the gathering, BTR Executive Member Ranjit Basumatary, popularly known as Ferenga, launched a scathing attack on Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) President and former Chief Executive Member (CEM) Hagrama Mohilary. He alleged that Mohilary’s regime was marked by an atmosphere of fear and political unrest. During Hagrama Mohilary’s rule, the BTR region was plagued with insecurity and authoritarianism. Even journalists did not dare to question his decisions, Basumatary remarked, drawing strong reactions from the crowd. Touching upon the issue of land allotments, Basumatary highlighted the achievements of the current administration and avowed that we are preparing to distribute land pattas to nearly 70,000 beneficiaries across the region in the upcoming month of July. In stark contrast, only 1,600 individuals received land titles during Mohilary’s 17-year tenure. While attending the event, Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary elaborated on efforts to improve railway infrastructure and connectivity in the region. We are working closely with relevant authorities to shift BTR areas from the Alipurduar Railway Division to the Rangiya Division. This move will facilitate better rail connectivity and ensure the inclusion of more stoppages at local stations for the convenience of passengers, MP Jayanta Basumatary adds.
The event also saw the participation of Gossaigaon MLA Jiron Basumatary, BTR Executive Member Wilson Hasda, and other key UPPL leaders and grassroots functionaries. Several speakers took the stage to share updates on government schemes and listen to the concerns of local beneficiaries. MP Jayanta Basumatary further said that such meet and awareness are being seen as a strategic move by the UPPL-led BTR administration to strengthen grassroots engagement, ensure transparency in scheme implementation, and mobilize public support ahead of upcoming political developments. He again said that by facilitating direct communication between policymakers and the public, the event succeeded in building awareness on critical socio-economic issues while reinforcing the government's commitment to inclusive development and good governance in the region.
