CPO Launches Passport Seva Mobile Van for Northeast at GU
Guwahati: In a major step towards enhancing accessibility to passport services in remote regions, Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, IFS, Joint Secretary for the Passport Seva Project and Chief Passport Officer, Ministry of External Affairs, launched the Passport Seva Mobile Van service under the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Guwahati at a special event held at Gauhati University. The initiative, part of the Ministry’s flagship outreach campaign “Passport Seva Aapke Dwar,” aims to provide last-mile delivery of passport services to citizens residing in far-flung rural and remote areas of the Northeast. Currently, the RPO Guwahati oversees 6 Passport Seva Kendras and 19 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras across six northeastern states. The mobile van will act as a one-stop solution where applicants can complete all passport-related formalities. Dr. Srinivasa mentioned that one mobile van has been allotted to each of the 37 RPOs across India, with plans to increase the number based on demand. He also visited RPO and PSK Guwahati, interacting with officials and appreciating their dedication to citizen service. During his visit, Dr. Srinivasa also met Assam’s DGP Harmeet Singh, ADGP Hiren Chandra Nath, and CPMG Col. Arvind Varma. He later paid courtesy visits to the Hon’ble Governor Laxman Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who praised the Ministry’s citizen-centric efforts.
