Guwahati: In a significant leap toward sustainable rail transport, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a major milestone with the 12423/12424 Dibrugarh–New Delhi Rajdhani Express now operating with end-to-end electric traction. This achievement follows the successful completion of electrification works on the Dibrugarh–Tinsukia–Lumding–Guwahati route. The fully electrified operation, which began on June 26 from New Delhi and will commence from Dibrugarh on June 27, is a major boost to Indian Railways’ goal of 100% electrification and carbon footprint reduction. The move promises enhanced efficiency, reduced travel time, and lower operational costs, while also promoting environmental sustainability. In line with this development, other key trains in the region are also switching to electric traction. The 13181 Kolkata–Silghat Town Express will begin its electric run from June 30, while its return service, 13182 Silghat Town–Kolkata Express, will follow on July 1. Similarly, the 12345 Howrah–Guwahati Saraighat Express began electric operations on June 25, with the 12346 Guwahati–Howrah leg starting June 26. The Rajendra Nagar–Kamakhya Capital Express (13248) also commenced electric traction on June 25, with its return service (13247) scheduled to switch on June 27. This electrification marks a transformative phase for railway infrastructure in the Northeast, reaffirming Indian Railways’ commitment to greener, faster, and more efficient rail travel.
