Seven arrested in suspected cattle slaughter case in Lakhimpur
Lakhimpur: A suspected case of cattle slaughter near the revered Siring Chuk Namghar in Assam’s Lakhimpur district has led to the arrest of seven individuals, sparking concerns over communal harmony in the area. The incident came to light after three cattle skulls were discovered dumped along a roadside, barely 30 meters from the religious site. The Lakhimpur Police acted swiftly following the discovery, arresting seven accused from different localities under North Lakhimpur and Panigaon police stations. A follow-up search at the residence of one of the accused, Monsur Ali, led to the recovery of three additional cattle skulls, which have been seized for forensic examination and legal proceedings. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrests and praised the police for their prompt action. Taking to social media, he reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance approach toward activities that threaten religious sentiments or social harmony. The incident has triggered widespread outrage and condemnation from various quarters. Community leaders have demanded stringent punishment for those responsible, while also appealing for calm to prevent any escalation of tension. Police have intensified security in sensitive areas as investigations continue to determine the motive and whether the accused are linked to a broader network.
