Tamulpur Hosts ‘Run for Happiness’ to Raise Awareness on Drug Abuse

Tamulpur: Over 200 runners participated in the “Run for Happiness” marathon in Tamulpur on Sunday morning, a unique event aimed at raising awareness on drug abuse, child marriage, and road safety. The 21-kilometre race began at Darangamela near the Indo-Bhutan border, drawing enthusiastic participation from across Assam. Organised by the Tamulpur district administration under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the event combined fitness with a powerful social message. Tamulpur Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakrabarty, Senior Superintendent of Police Diganta Kumar Choudhuri, and local MLA Jolen Daimary flagged off the run at dawn. “This marathon is part of our continuous effort to promote a drug-free society and spread awareness against child marriage and unsafe roads,” said DC Chakrabarty. He added that Self-Help Group members also took part, highlighting grassroots involvement. To encourage participation, ten runners will be awarded prizes worth Rs 1 lakh. SSP Choudhuri stressed the importance of engaging youth in such initiatives: “It’s a commendable step by the district administration that will hopefully leave a lasting impact.” The event concluded with widespread community support and praise. Officials confirmed that more such awareness programmes are planned for the near future.
