Webinar on development of Assamese language aboard held
Nagaon: Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha's Prabasi Asomiya Sub-Committee, in collaboration with Nowgong College, organized a webinar on 'Development of Assamese Language Abroad: Experiences of Non-Resident Assamese' recently. The webinar featured representatives from Canada, Europe, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, who shared their experiences and insights on promoting Assamese language and culture abroad. The webinar was moderated by Dr Jagannath Biswakarma, a noted scientist, scholar and researcher from the University of Bristol. Nirala Baruah, a resident of Scotland and Vice President of Asom Sahitya Sabha, UK, emphasized the importance of translating Assamese literature into English and other foreign languages. Manjira Chowdhury, former President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, UK, highlighted the significance of creating a center for Assamese language and culture in foreign countries. The webinar also featured presentations from Srimanta Bhuyan, President of the Assamese Community in Europe; Diganta Baishya, Canada; Uma Talukdar, Canada; and Diganta Malakar, Ireland. The speakers emphasized the need to promote Assamese language and culture abroad and to create a digital platform for its development. Dr Sarat Borkatoki, president of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, welcomed the participants and emphasized the role of non-resident Assamese in promoting Assamese language and culture. Dr Jagannath Biswakarma, in his concluding remarks, highlighted the importance of collective efforts in promoting Assamese language and culture. The webinar also saw the launch of an e-magazine, 'Prabasi Asomiyar Kalamere', edited by Dr Jagannath Biswakarma. The magazine aims to provide a platform for non-resident Assamese to share their experiences and insights on promoting Assamese language and culture abroad. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr Surya Hazarika, former President of Asom Sahitya Sabha; Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami, president of Asom Sahitya Sabha; and Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India.
